In April 2025, Cambodia's investment sector ushered in major good news. Two major tire manufacturing plant projects were officially landed, marking a new milestone in the development of Cambodia's tire industry. According to data released by the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), Cambodia attracted 59 investment projects in April, with a total investment of US$860 million, a significant increase year-on-year. Among them, the tire manufacturing project is undoubtedly the most eye-catching focus.
The two milestone projects are a US$242 million tire manufacturing plant in the ISI Golden Port SEZ and a US$93 million tire plant project in the Qilu Special Economic Zone in Svay Rieng Province, with a total investment of these two projects is US$335 million. The projects are large in scale and high in technology content. They will significantly enhance Cambodia's competitiveness in the tire manufacturing field in Southeast Asia and even the world, and inject strong impetus into local economic development.
Men Sopheak, Chairman of the Rubber Development Association of Cambodia (ARDC), warmly welcomed the implementation of these two major projects. He believes that attracting foreign tire manufacturers to build factories in Cambodia is the only way for the development of Cambodia's rubber industry, which will effectively promote the increase of rubber prices and drive the upgrading of the entire industrial chain. He called on domestic companies to increase investment in rubber processing plants and seize this historic opportunity.
Hong Vanak, an economist at the Royal Academy of Cambodia, pointed out that the implementation of the two major tire manufacturing projects not only reflects investors' high confidence in the Cambodian market, but also highlights Cambodia's unique advantages in attracting foreign investment. He stressed that Cambodia's stable political environment, preferential investment policies, complete transportation infrastructure, abundant and young labor resources, and core location in ASEAN are all important factors in attracting foreign investment.
With the completion and production of these two tire manufacturing plants, Cambodia is expected to occupy a more important position in the global tire industry chain. This will not only bring considerable economic benefits to Cambodia, but also create a large number of employment opportunities and promote the comprehensive development of the local economy and society.
