On September 24, Michelin Shenyang plant celebrated its 30th anniversary.
As Michelin's first factory in China, the Shenyang factory has witnessed Michelin's development process of deepening its roots in China and has become a model benchmark for promoting the upgrading and sustainable development of high-end tire manufacturing. Since its establishment in 1995, the Shenyang plant has grown into Michelin Group's largest and most advanced high-end tire manufacturing base in the world.
In his speech at the celebration, Michelin Greater China and Mongolia President and CEO Ye Fei said: "The Shenyang plant is an important milestone for Michelin in China. Over the past 30 years, it has promoted the leap from local manufacturing to global intelligent manufacturing, and has also played a key role in green transformation and talent development. The success of the Shenyang plant is a vivid manifestation of the deep integration of the Michelin spirit and the Chinese market.”
Since the establishment of a joint venture plant in Shenyang in 1995, Michelin has officially introduced its tire production line to China, embarking on the road of high-quality localized manufacturing.
During the foundation-laying phase (1995-2010), the plant took root in Northeast China and gradually established a production system that meets international standards, laying a solid foundation for Michelin's long-term development in China.
During the expansion and upgrading period (2010-2018), the Shenyang plant launched the "High-performance radial tire environmentally friendly relocation, transformation and expansion project" to continuously improve production capacity and operational efficiency. In 2010, a new PCR tire production line with an annual production capacity of 10 million tires was built; In 2018, a new production line with an annual output of 6 million PCR tires and a supporting semi-finished product production line were added, which enabled "Made in Shenyang" to gradually leap to "Smart Manufacturing in Shenyang", becoming an important support for Michelin's global supply chain.
During the green intelligent manufacturing stage (2019-2023), it followed the global manufacturing green transformation trend and accelerated the creation of "green, intelligent, and low-carbon" future plant. By introducing energy-saving equipment, deploying green energy, and promoting digital management, the Shenyang plant has established a green management system covering the entire life cycle from raw material procurement, production and manufacturing to product recycling, and is expected to achieve carbon neutrality by 2028. To adapt to the rapid growth of China's electric vehicle market, the plant has invested in the construction of five silent tire production lines since 2019. By 2023, the plant's annual production capacity has reached 16.3 million pieces.
During the strategic long-term period (2024-), the Shenyang plant increased its investment layout to build a future factory that leads the industry. In 2024, Jinpeng project invested 40 million euros, bringing the plant's production capacity to 17.1 million pieces in 2025. It will see the 100 millionth PCR tire roll off the production line, meeting diverse market demands and becoming a key move in the group's "Smart Manufacturing in China" strategy.
Since the groundbreaking ceremony of the "High-performance radial tire environmentally friendly relocation, reconstruction and expansion project" at the Shenyang plant in 2010, Michelin Group's cumulative investment in Shenyang has exceeded RMB 12.5 billion. At the same time, focusing on the three pillars of "people, profit, and environment", the plant continues to make breakthroughs in high-end tire production, sustainable development, talent training and local value creation, laying a solid foundation for the blueprint of "Zero-carbon plant" and "Future plant".
